Rex Nelson oversees the development and management of government contracts and accounts, along with new business development and policy guidance for existing clients of The Communications Group. 

Nelson came to the agency from the Delta Regional Authority, where he was one of President George W. Bush’s two appointees to the authority.  The DRA is an economic development agency that covers 252 counties and parishes in parts of Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi and Tennessee.  Prior to the DRA, Nelson was the director of communications for Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee for almost 10 years. He was a member of the governor’s five-person senior management team and was Huckabee’s campaign manager in 1998. 

Nelson is an Arkadelphia native and a graduate of Ouachita Baptist University.  He has an extensive journalism, political consulting and broadcasting background that includes having served as assistant sports editor of the Arkansas Democrat, Washington bureau chief of the Arkansas Democrat, political editor of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and editor of Arkansas Business.  Nelson is a sports fan and an expert on Southern culture.  Check out his blog at www.RexNelsonSouthernFried.com to learn more.
