In 2003, Baldor Electric Company sought to strengthen connections with consulting and specifying engineers who manage projects requiring above-NEMA class industrial motors and drives. Recognizing that engineers value peer-to-peer collaboration, Baldor partnered with The Communications Group to create an innovative program that offered real-time solutions to technical challenges. This initiative aimed to engage engineers with tailored resources, whether they were existing Baldor customers or not.
The Challenge
Consulting and specifying engineers often face complex challenges requiring precise, actionable advice. Baldor needed an efficient way to provide peer-to-peer solutions for these professionals while ensuring the information was credible, accessible, and delivered promptly. The primary challenge was developing a system that would meet engineers' expectations for technical expertise and timeliness while effectively promoting Baldor’s expertise in the industry.
The Solution
The Communications Group developed the Baldor ProSpec program, a first-of-its-kind initiative in the manufacturing industry. At its core was a dedicated landing page where engineers could submit questions or describe technical challenges related to motors or drives. Baldor’s in-house experts monitored the page and guaranteed responses within 24 hours, creating a trusted hub for peer-driven support.
To promote the program, we used a combination of trade publications and direct mail campaigns to reach Baldor’s target audience. The messaging emphasized the program’s unique ability to provide free, expert advice directly from Baldor engineers. By integrating clear calls to action and leveraging existing industry relationships, we ensured maximum visibility and engagement.
The Results
The ProSpec program exceeded expectations within weeks of its launch. Engineers rapidly adopted the platform, resulting in a surge of inquiries that prompted Baldor to assign two additional in-house experts to handle the demand.
