When I began interning with The Communications Group, I was not sure what to expect, but I did know that I was ready for a summer full of learning. As I finish up my CGXperience, I am able to reflect on my semester as a Grouper.
During the CGXperience, interns select a topic for their long-term project. This topic is selected based on the intern's interests and helps them enhance their experience and expertise in this area. My topic was content strategy. This involved thorough research of blog posts and social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. I started by researching aspects of a successful social media platform. Additionally, I gathered data from ComGroup’s social media analytics. This step was helpful because it allowed me to see the how information I gathered performed to real life.
Next, I repeated the same steps, but for blog posts. This was accomplished by researching the best times to blog, then pulling data from Google Analytics to analyze ComGroup's blog. While using Google Analytics, I looked at how many blog posts were posted and how many page views the blog received during that month. Lastly, I noted how many blogs were shared on the agency's social media platforms. This allowed me to note if posting on social media increased page views for the blog.
To finish up my long-term project, I set goals and objectives that were specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timely (SMART). Each goal was set to help monitor the growth of social platforms and blog posts. Overall, this project made me dive into the world of content marketing at a deeper level and helped me to conduct research that is relevant.
By being a part of the CGXperience, I have gained valuable, real world experience that I could not have gotten anywhere else. During my time at ComGroup, I have built my skills in marketing, writing, social media, and much more. Additionally, I have learned from the experiences of the amazing Groupers in the office. I am beyond appreciative for my time as a Grouper, and I am confident that the skills that I learned during my CGXperience will benefit me in my future career.
