Briefly describe your role: It is my responsibility to maintain and foster Today’s Power’s brand equity and public image through communication and marketing efforts. Solar and other renewable energy are still emerging technologies and it is my mission to be a trusted voice and source of information to educate Arkansas and surrounding states on the benefits that surround renewable energy.
Q: Is what you’re doing now what you always pictured you would do?
A: Before joining the energy sector, I was a communicator with experience in the health, education and retail industries. My interest in the Renewable Energy Sector started out even before my career started. I always thought each of us is responsible for making the world a clean and green place, but if you had asked me in high school, or even college, if I were to work for Arkansas' largest renewable energy company, I would have told you that you're crazy!
FUN FACT: I started working as the "WOW Coordinator" at Today's Power. I had never seen that title used before, but the job description seemed right up my alley, and an excellent way to diversify and enter into a new industry, an EXCITING one at that.
Q: What do you see as the greatest challenges for women in your chosen industry? What are the greatest opportunities?
A: The solar energy sector has been and remains a male-dominated sector. As of 2018, women make up roughly 26% of the solar workforce, according to The Solar Foundation. But things are shifting, although gradually. The explanation why? Women are beginning to realize that solar energy is a growing industry, bringing a wealth of modern, highly qualified, well-paying employment with that growth.
Q: Who has inspired you in your life/career?
A: From military roots to blue blood, my family has always inspired me to work hard and “just do it” even when things get hard. I was the first person in my family to obtain a degree, but the lessons taught to me by my parents and grandparents taught me what good work ethic is, and are the ones I cherish and value the most.
Q: What advice would you give to an aspiring professional?
A: Don’t be afraid to go for it. To ask the questions you need the answers to. To take initiative even if you don’t FEEL like you have the experience you THINK you need to step up, you may surprise yourself.
More importantly, always bring your passion and your personality to everything you do. It does not go unnoticed.
Q: What’s been your secret to success?
A: The passion of serving others and improving the quality of life in the communities with which I get work as the Marketing and PR Coordinator at Today's Power makes my job easy. I work with a visionary board of directors and leadership team, and with some of the hardest-working people I've ever met. As the in-house communicator, a team like this makes my job a piece of cake — to praise and promote the solar, battery energy storage, and EV Charger projects we’ve had the opportunity to bring online!
