Briefly describe your role: I manage an NCAA DII athletic department with 24 sports, 25 employees, and 575 athletes.
Q: Is what you’re doing now what you always pictured you would do?
A: Exactly! I had a goal of being an NCAA DII athletic director when I first graduated from college
Q: What do you see as the greatest challenges for women in your chosen industry? What are the greatest opportunities?
A: Being able to balance family and work. Seen as a credible leader at institutions that sponsor football. There are certain areas of the country that also see women in more traditional roles and not in male dominated industries.
Q: Who has inspired you in your life/career?
A: My athletic director in college, Tim Selgo. He was a visionary leader.
Q: What advice would you give to an aspiring professional?
A: Get involved in as many aspects of your industry. Volunteer to work events, serve on committees, attend industry events, build your network. Make sure you are active and engaged on social media, building your brand. Always look for opportunities to post.
Q: What's been the secret to success?
A: Taking pride in my work. Everything I do has my name tied to it, so I want to make sure I am always putting out a good product.
Being assertive, but having a good feel for people and respecting others. Knowing how to engage a group and having confidence around others.
